Silhouette

This week's theme is "Silhouette", I don't know why but the idea of a War of the Worlds picture just popped into my head.

To get this image, I set up my Sb-600 set to 24mm with 2 red gels behind the subject shooting towards the camera. This would send out the light in a wide enough pattern to flood the entire background. I then put my 4 in 1 reflector between the flash and subjects so that the subjects would become silhouette while the background was just a mass of pure red.

Coffee

I took a ton of shots for this coffee theme, but I really didn't like any of them... sucks, but I'll revisit this soon!

Bixies & Bokeh

I really enjoy this image and I'm a sucker the abstract. I understand if some of you do not see the Bixi Bikes right away and thats fine...Danny Corsi...

I'd like to take full credit for this photo but Laura was the one who discovered the reflective quality of the bike rims by snapping a photo with the flash on. I jumped right on board with this idea and snapped 20 or so out of focus images while Danny and Vero drove around in circles.

I left my 50 mill at F1.8 and just played with the focus ring. Out of all the shots, this one just stuck out for me.

Bokeh

What is Bokeh??

Basically, bokeh is the quality of out-of-focus or “blurry” parts of the image rendered by a camera lens – it is NOT the blur itself or the amount of blur in the foreground or the background of a subject. The blur that you are so used to seeing in photography that separates a subject from the background is the result of shallow depth of field and is generally simply called “background blur”. The quality and feel of the background/foreground blur and reflected points of light, however, is what photographers call Bokeh.
